Best Long Range Electric Scooters

Best Long Range Electric Scooters

There are many electric scooters on the market that are incredibly fun to ride, but the battery can be completely drained in a matter of minutes - and no one likes to be stranded pushing their scooter home! So finding a scooter with a decent range and battery life is particularly important if you’re looking for a reliable electric scooter.

Benefits of Long Range Electric Scooters

With so many different features and tech specs to consider when buying an electric scooter, there are many benefits to choosing a model that has an extended range.

Longer riding time

When buying an electric scooter, you want to make sure that your scooter does not run out of battery a mere two blocks from home, which actually happens with some popular models. So if you plan on using your electric scooter for commuting or long weekend rides, we do recommend you choose an electric scooter with an extended range to ensure you have longer riding time.

Don’t need to recharge frequently

With long-range electric scooters offering longer riding time, you also won’t need to recharge your scooter frequently. That’s more time riding, and less time on the sidelines.

More reliable and convenient

As mentioned, choosing a scooter that does not have a lot of range can be problematic, and can even leave you stranded pushing your scooter home. So if you want an electric scooter that is reliable and convenient, we recommend choosing a long-range electric scooter.

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Long Range Electric Scooter

We should also note that despite some great benefits, there are some other factors to consider when choosing a long range electric scooter.

Charging time

Although you won’t need to recharge your long range scooter frequently, with more power required and bigger batteries, it is to be expected that long range electric scooters will take longer to fully charge. You should expect a charging time of about 6 hours for an average long range electric scooter.

Maximum speed

Many long-range electric scooters tend to compromise speed for range. Although this doesn’t necessarily have to be a negative depending on your electric scooter needs, we should note that with a slower max speed, your long range electric scooter is also unlikely to be able to climb steep hills. So depending on what your commute looks like, this can be a disadvantage of choosing a long range electric scooter.

Electric scooter weight

Long range electric scooters can be heavy in order to accommodate a larger battery. Most long range scooters weigh around 17-19 kgs (37-40 lbs), but you can get decent models, like the Raine One, that weigh considerably less. Again, depending on what your electric scooter needs are, this does not have to be a disadvantage. However, if you plan on carrying your electric upstairs, taking it onto public transport, or storing it away, you may have some difficulty.

Comfort

When choosing your long-range electric scooter, make sure it is comfortable to ride. Some factors to consider are:

  • Deck width: Make sure your electric scooter has a wide deck to help you find your balance. Also ensure that the deck is high-grip to help you find your perfect stance in all weather conditions.

  • Handlebars: You want your long range scooter to have all-weather grips on your handlebars to ensure a comfortable ride. The Raine One even has heated handlebars to make your ride extra special.

  • Suspension: This is a key feature in ensuring a comfortable ride on your electric scooter. A good suspension system will ensure your electric scooter will glide over those bumps in your journey.

The Best Long Range Electric Scooters

Ninebot Max

With a max range of 65km (40 miles), the Ninebot Max has the most impressive range for a commuter electric scooter. With such a long range, you wouldn’t need to recharge your electric scooter after 20 minutes of riding (which happens with some electric scooter models). Instead, you would have hours of uninterrupted riding time to play with - perfect for those long commutes or adventurous weekend rides.

However, like many electric scooters that have an extended range, the Ninebot Max has a long charging time. The Ninebot Max takes 6 hours to fully recharge, which means that although you will have plenty of riding time, you will also have plenty of time on the sidelines waiting for your Ninebot to recharge.

Additionally, with such a large battery, the Ninebot Max is one of the heavier commuter scooters on the market. Weighing approximately 18.7 kgs (41.2 lbs), this electric scooter is not designed to be carried around, which can make storage and transportation difficult.

Bird One

Another long-range electric scooter is the Bird One. With a max range of 48km (30 miles) this is a very reliable electric scooter that will allow you to have over 3 hours of uninterrupted riding.

However, similar to the Ninebot Max, the Bird One has a long charging time of 4-6 hours, so you do have to wait a while before you can get riding again once you’re out of power. It also seems that the Bird One has compromised their speed in order to increase the range of the electric scooter, which is quite a common occurrence in long-range scooters. With a max speed of 29km/h (16mph), the Bird One’s max speed is considerably less than other competitors on the market.

Segway ES2

Although the standard model of the Segway ES2 has a 25km (15.5 mile) range, you can add bolt-on batteries that can give you up to 45km (28 miles) of range in one charge.

Yet, very similar to the Bird One and Ninebot Max, this extra range will extend your charging time and add weight to your electric scooter, which may not be desired depending on your electric scooter needs.

Raine One

One electric scooter that does not compromise speed for long range is the Raine One. Despite this electric scooter having a shorter range when compared to the Ninebot Max and Bird One, the Raine One’s 40km (25 mile) range is still very impressive. Couple this with a max speed of 50km/h (31mph), which is almost double the speed of the Bird One, this electric scooter will get you wherever you need to go in no time.

The designers have also put a lot of effort into ensuring that the weight of the electric scooter is minimized. By utilizing a strong, yet lightweight carbon fiber and aluminium frame, the Raine One weighs a mere 12 kg (26 lbs), so can be easily carried and stored when required.

The Raine One also has an impressive charging time of 2 hours for 20km (12 miles) of range and 5 hours for full charge. This means you spend more time riding and less time on the sidelines.

Long range electric scooters can offer many benefits to scooter riders including longer riding times, less recharges and a very convenient and reliable riding experience. However, if you want an all-round great ride, we recommend you choose a long range electric scooter that does not compromise too much on speed, charging time and overall scooter weight.
